Information for employers

Boosting Apprenticeship Commencements

Are you a business with new hires, casual, or part-time employees? If so, you may be eligible for Boosting Apprenticeship Commencement wage subsidy worth up to $28,000 per employee. This is an opportunity to upskill your employees with qualifications in key areas like leadership and management, human resources, marketing and communications, and project management.

The Boosting Apprenticeship Commencement wage subsidy supports business and Group Training Organisations to take on new apprentices and trainees, to build a pipeline of skilled workers to support sustained economic recovery. Through the subsidy, any business or Group Training Organisation that engages an Australian Apprentice between 5 October 2020 and 31 March 2022 may be eligible for a subsidy of 50 per cent of wages paid to a new or recommencing apprentice or trainee for a 12-month period from the date of commencement to a maximum of $7,000 per quarter.

Is My Business Eligible?

Your business may be eligible if:

  • you engage an Australian Apprentice between 5 October 2020 and 31 March 2022
  • your Australian Apprentice or trainee is undertaking a Certificate II or higher qualification and has a training contract that is formally approved by the state training authority.

There is no limit to the number of apprentices a company can take on, but they must ensure to meet the requirements. The subsidy is not available for an apprentice receiving any other form of Australian Government wage subsidy, for example, Supporting Apprentices and Trainees or JobKeeper.

Contact us today to sign up your trainee before 31 March 2021 to be eligible for the Boosting Apprenticeship Commencements wage subsidy incentive!

  • Transfer from casual employment to a part-time or full-time Australian Apprenticeship
